Intel Core Ultra Series Gaming PCs

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Intel Core Ultra 7 better than the Intel Core i7?

The Intel Core Ultra 7 is the newer and more efficient processor of the two, and it is the successor to the Core i7, rather than a variant of it. Intel retired the i3, i5, i7 and i9 naming with the Core Ultra generation, so an Ultra 7 sits where an i7 used to. The Ultra 7 270K Plus runs 24 cores against the 20 on a Core i7 14700K, uses significantly less power under load and runs cooler internally, which matters in long sessions of gaming, streaming or creative work. Our Intel Core Series PCs cover the earlier generation if you are comparing the two.

Should I get an Intel Core Ultra 7 or an Intel Core Ultra 9?

Get the Intel Core Ultra 7 unless your work keeps every core busy for hours at a time. The Ultra 9 is the higher clocked, higher priced tier, and it earns its high reputation in sustained professional workloads such as 3D rendering, compiling code and long video exports. For gaming the difference is minor, as the graphics card sets your frame rate long before the CPU does, so the money saved is better spent there.

Is the Intel Core Ultra 5 a good entry point for gaming?

Yes. The Intel Core Ultra 5 225 Plus can be a good first gaming processor, comfortably running competitive games and most modern games on low-to-mid settings. If you are new to PC gaming, the useful thing to know is that the graphics card, not the processor, is what mostly decides how smoothly a game runs. So if you are weighing up an Ultra 5 against an Ultra 7, putting that difference towards a better graphics card will typically give you more frames per second. The Ultra 7 is worth the step up if you plan to stream while you play, or edit videos alongside gaming. You are not locked in either way, as a faster CPU can easily be fitted to the same PC later down the line. Contact our service team if you are unsure where to start.

What is the Intel Core Ultra series best for?

The Core Ultra series is best for those who tend to run several demanding games and applications at once, such as gaming while streaming, running many applications side by side, or mixing creative work with play. The large efficient core count within the Intel Core Ultra CPUs smoothly handles background load without stealing performance from your game, and it runs cooler and draws less power than the Core generation it replaced. For pure gaming frame rates alone, AMD’s X3D processors are still in the lead, so if you only play games, an AMD gaming PC may be worth comparing. The CyberPowerPC UK service team is available via email, call or live chat if you are unsure on the best CPU for your needs.

Should I choose an Intel Core Ultra laptop or a desktop PC?

Choose a Core Ultra desktop for performance and a Core Ultra laptop for portability and AI features, because the two use genuinely different chips. Desktop Core Ultra 200S processors have a 13 TOPS neural processor, which sits below Microsoft’s 40 TOPS threshold, so a Core Ultra desktop is not a Copilot+ PC. The Core Ultra 200V laptop chips reach 48 TOPS and are. On raw performance the desktop wins comfortably, as it has far more cores and no thermal or battery limit to work around. If portability matters more than frame rates, our gaming laptops carry the mobile Core Ultra range.
