One of the most eagerly anticipated games of all time, we\u2019ve had to wait 13 years to see what Rockstar has in store. After some delays, it looks like we\u2019re almost at the finish line, with a release date scheduled for later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From confirmed gameplay to rumoured features, we\u2019ll cover everything you need to know ahead of launch- including whether your console<\/a> or gaming PC<\/a> can handle it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As of March 2026, Rockstar has confirmed the scheduled GTA 6 release date as Thursday, 19th November 2026. That\u2019s eight years since development began in late 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n As any gamer who hasn\u2019t been living under a rock knows, the game has been pushed back\u2026 a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Although not officially confirmed, it was first believed that the next instalment would be released in late 2025. In May of that year, Rockstar confirmed a release date of 26th May 2026, only to give fans d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu by pushing this back to the 19th November a few months later. At the time of writing, the game is still set for that November 2026 release. <\/p>\n\n\n\n As the situation remains more complex with a multitude of factors stirring up possible further complications, including the extensive development this game has undergone. An AAA title generating this amount of buzz needs to meet expectations, and further push back is always a possibility. Keep an ear to the ground for more news on the situation as it unfolds.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since the release date is still some time away, GTA 6\u2019s price has not yet been confirmed by Rockstar. Rumoured prices range between \u00a369.99 and \u00a379.99 for the standard edition, and \u00a389.99 to \u00a3109.99 for premium editions. This generally fits the pattern of other recent AAA titles. For instance, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launched in November 2025 at \u00a369.99, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows released in March 2025 at the same price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In terms of revenue, GTA 5 made an incredible $1 billion dollars within its first three days on the market, and whilst this achievement was truly impressive, GTA Online is still set to be one of the most profitable games in history. Amazingly, despite PC gamers contributing just 3% of total weekly revenue, the game has generated approximately half a billion dollars a year since its release in 2013. We all know the hype hasn\u2019t slowed down, and it\u2019s widely predicted that GTA VI\u2019s revenue will be record-breaking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n There hasn\u2019t been a lot officially confirmed on system requirements, but we do know that GTA 6 will be available on PS5<\/a>, Xbox Series X, and Series S at launch. It\u2019s unlikely we\u2019ll see the game on PS4 or Xbox One, as the hardware on those older consoles probably won\u2019t handle the game\u2019s advanced graphics and open-world scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You may have heard some rumours about a release on the Switch 2 at some point in the future, but take these with a big pinch of salt. The game will likely need a very powerful CPU<\/a> or GPU<\/a> to run smoothly, and the Switch 2\u2019s current hardware limitations make a port extremely unlikely. Considering the Switch hasn\u2019t received GTA 5 or even GTA 4, it\u2019s safe to say that a Switch release is probably off the table. <\/p>\n\n\n\n A PC release is yet to be confirmed, but it\u2019s widely considered a safe bet that one will come eventually -it\u2019s more a case of when than if. While it is unlikely to be launched alongside console versions, rumours have been swirling around a late 2027\/early 2028 release window for PCs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is also no official confirmation on GTA 6\u2019s file size, but it will probably be upwards of 150 GB, possibly 200 GB or more with updates. This large size reflects the advanced features expected in the game, such as higher pedestrian density, parallax mapping, and other graphical and simulation improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On consoles, GTA 6 will likely target 4K\/60 fps on Xbox Series X and PS5, with scalable resolutions and frame rates on the Series S. Advanced features like ray tracing, realistic AI, and complex physics may impact performance on lower-end hardware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If GTA 6 includes an online mode similar to GTA Online, players will need a stable internet connection, and additional storage may be required for regular updates and expansions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n GTA 6 returns to Tommy Vercetti\u2019s home of Vice City, 40 years after the original setting. Players can expect to see all the things we love about Vice City return, including a road inspired by the iconic Ocean Drive. Rockstar<\/a> describes Vice City as the \u201csun and fun\u201d capital of America, so we can expect to see the same vibrance and glamour we saw back in 2002, but on a whole new level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vice City is thought to be the key area in GTA 6, but it is just one part of a much wider map. The game is expected to span the entire state of Leonida, which is based on Florida. Aside from Vice City, there are five other areas confirmed by Rockstar: <\/p>\n\n\n\n From the mysterious Claude to the eccentric Trevor, protagonists have been the heart of GTA games, and GTA 6 is no different. This time around, there are two protagonists, plus a selection of colourful supporting characters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Many fans already consider Lucia to be one of the most exciting parts of GTA 6. While female characters were playable in the original Grand Theft Auto, she is the first non-optional female protagonist outside of the 2D universe. Lucia, despite her opening being her release from a stint in prison for an indiscernible crime, appears level-headed and intends to make a better future for herself. She\u2019s also shown gleefully partaking in a criminal lifestyle alongside Jason- it\u2019s obvious she\u2019s a go-getter, ambitious and gritty. As a star in the GTA world, she\u2019s going to be a cool, fun-to-play character, possibly one to add to the list of the best female characterisation<\/a> in video games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here\u2019s everything we do<\/em> know about Lucia so far:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jason is our second GTA 6 protagonist. While Lucia wants a good life, Jason\u2019s main priority is an easy life. Unfortunately for him (but fortunately for us), the criminal underworld keeps dragging him back in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here\u2019s everything we know about Jason so far: <\/p>\n\n\n\n The protagonists may be who we see the most, but side characters can make or break the game. And we\u2019ve seen plenty of memorable supporting cast in GTA over the years, from villains like Catalina to sidekicks like Lamar. Here\u2019s everything we know about the side characters in GTA 6 so far:<\/p>\n\n\n\n There\u2019s still a lot we don\u2019t know about GTA 6\u2019s storyline based on the first two trailers. What we do know is that, early in the game, Lucia is released from prison but remains on an ankle tag. We also know that Jason is involved in drug running, and the two protagonists appear to be in a relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Outside of this, Rockstar hasn\u2019t confirmed much, other than they are in the “middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida”. Many fans have speculated that GTA 6 seems to be a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired story, and we can see that trust is a major theme running through the two initial trailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Keep an eye out for any further trailers (not that they\u2019ll be hard to miss!). In the coming months, we\u2019ll likely see at least a couple more, perhaps focused on gameplay and the protagonists like the trailers we saw in the lead-up to GTA 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now onto the bit that matters the most to players: the gameplay. Unsurprisingly, GTA 6 is pushing things forward with big gameplay advancements, as well as bringing back some mechanics we know and love from previous games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Like in GTA 5, players can switch back and forth between protagonists during missions. But leaks suggest that in GTA 6, we may see a completely new gameplay perspective: being able to control both protagonists at the same time during certain missions. This is a complete game-changer that will add whole new layers of strategy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The policing in Vice City is getting an upgrade, too. The first trailer<\/a> shows police body cam footage in action, which could have a big impact on gameplay. Leaks also indicate that wanted levels may trigger social media alerts, making it even harder to shake off those stars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Speaking of social media, it is taking a huge leap forward from GTA 5\u2019s \u201cBleeter\u201d. Trailers feature live streaming and short-form video content. Social media is likely to impact certain missions too, especially in missions regarding the Real Dimez duo, Bea-Luxe and Roxy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When it comes to NPCs, we\u2019re seeing more advanced reactions than ever before. Their behaviour reacts to in-world events, they might even remember the player, and developed dialogue systems make interactions feel dynamic and immersive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are a few other rumoured gameplay features, including an advanced health system similar to RDR2\u2019s, and weight mechanics, which haven\u2019t been seen since GTA San Andreas. But take these with a pinch of salt, as there is yet to be concrete evidence to back these claims up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It looks like we have plenty to do outside of the missions, with loads of different activities to try out. Here are all the activities we have seen so far in the trailers: <\/p>\n\n\n\n There are also some activities that have appeared in leaks or trailer hints, but aren\u2019t officially confirmed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n GTA 6 promises an incredible variety of vehicles, with over 200 confirmed so far (GTABase<\/a>). Fans of Vice City will be pleased to see classic rides like the Cheetah, as well as franchise staples like the Banshee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Customisation looks deeper than ever, with leaks suggesting players may be able to fine-tune tiny details like mirrors and seat positions, while full performance and visual upgrades will allow you to put your personal stamp on every ride. Rockstar is also reportedly bringing their most realistic driving system ever, making every chase, getaway, or cruise feel totally immersive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n GTA 6 is bringing an arsenal of weapons, from smoke grenades to sniper rifles. Leaks suggest that players can expect more customisation than ever, letting you tweak attachments and personalise your loadout for missions or free roam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The same leaks hint at an expanded inventory system, with backpacks and duffel bags allowing you to carry more weapons at once. While Rockstar hasn\u2019t confirmed every detail yet, it\u2019s clear that weapon variety and quality are bigger and better than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s a question on everyone\u2019s minds. After all, GTA 5\u2019s revolutionary online mode has been a great success, with a daily average of over 60,000 players in 2026. While Rockstar hasn\u2019t officially confirmed an online mode for GTA 6, it’s very likely that we\u2019ll see one at some point. The real question is whether it will launch on day one or arrive later as a separate update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It would be odd to see no references to past GTA games, especially with a return to Vice City. Although the 3D and HD universes are canonically separate, we have still seen a few San Andreas Easter Eggs pop up in GTA 5. For example, in GTA 5, an OG Loc gold record hangs in Franklin\u2019s house, and in the mission Hood Safari, three Chamberlain Gangster Family members wear outfits similar to those from the Sweet & Kendl mission in San Andreas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But will there be any nods to GTA 5 in the upcoming sequel, or even any returning characters? While we\u2019ve had no official confirmation, it\u2019s certainly possible.
