This has occurred a number of times and getting a little concerned

My PC seems to shut down and reboot for no apparent reason.

I can confirm I have no power issues in my house

INfinity Hercules GT [crossfireX/SLI] Asus p8Z68-V pro intel z68]

purchased 3/11/2011

Snippets from Event Viewer

Please advise

You can generate BCCode #41 Kernel Power simply by pressing the reset button.

What is the PC doing when this happens?
Are there any Warning Events around the same time?
What's the last thing you installed before they started?

I really hadn't installed anything recent on my PC.
when this happens I do not get any warning whatsoever, the screen goes black then the PC reboots

When this last occurred I was in the middle of a Battlefield3 game.
I play BF3 many frequently and this never happens

Can software trigger this BCCode #4 accidently ? My hand was nowhere near the reset when this happened

Look for Error and Warning messages around the time of the Code 41s, on their own they say very little about why the PC rebooted.

If it only happens in BF3 I'd be looking at a full power stress test (Prime95 large FFTs + Furmark 1.8.2 Extreme Burning mode overnight with GPU temperature logging on) if that makes it reset then your PSU may be cutting out.

What model PSU, CPU & Graphics?

very strange I cannot see any warnings relating to the times of the reboot

PSU: 850 watts (CoolerMaster 850watt Silent ProModular Gaming Power Supply
CPU: Intel I7 2600k Quad Core 3.4 8mmb cache (LGA1155)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX580 1536mb

The only after issue that might relate this and happens frequently is when I start up my PC for the first time in the day.
Around 10secs into the start up and when I start to see the BIOS info come up on the screen, it then reboots and restarts.

On the second time around everything seem to start up (so far)

???

This maybe unrelated but every so often when I first boot up my machine it reboots 10 secs into the startup.

Then after that it start ups normally

Like a double-boot? Very common with ASUS boards, I have the Sabertooth and it does it on every boot.

It's due to your poor power supply. Most problems on this forum are related to the crappy power supplies used...

The 850w Silent Pro is well enough for the system spec

can you get blue screen view and see if there are any listed bsods ?

Its way more than capable dont worry about it, dont really know what that guys on about.

A double boot is also common on some Z68 Mobos (it is on my Gigabyte board) something to do with the capacitors recharging or something like that.

Hi,

I downloaded and ran bluscreenviewer tool and nothing appeared then realised that I have no minidump file currently in my windows folder

So from this I assume I have not experienced any failures so far linked with BSODs at this time with this PC

Please advise

SteveR i am getting the same problems as you, random restarts now and again when idle or sometimes in game. i was told to run HDtune, ran the benchmark and it restarts so cyber are sending me out a new HDD. hopefully this fixes my problem.

EDIT: pc restarted and went to a black screen after a few tries the windows repair screen came on and when i tried to log in i got this message 'C:\windows\system32\slc.dll is either not designed....' it would not let me on to windows and now i have to reinstall again. I hope this is just confirming the dodgy HDD theory. Because i have had the computer less than 1 month. My new HDD will be here tomorrow i will keep you updated if this is the fix apart from this most recent error 'corruption of the disk' my problems were exactly the same as yours.

Update 2:

After receiving the new HDD. i plugged it in and the same occurred random restart just as i was installing the OS. phoned up CP and they advised me to go to custom stock speeds to see if their OC was causing the problem. i have yet to experiance the random cut of power, although the OS has been on this drive for less than an hour and i have already had 1 BSOD. :( stressing me out so bad

Just a suggestion, is there any way for you to check your PSU for faults?

yes we then put the clock back to what it was meant to be XXX overclock. since then i have experianced restarts once a day atleast i tested the ram in another new build from cyber 'a friends' and the sticks were fine in there i also tried different slots, still the same. i have since been advised to set the bios to default stock speeds, the pc is more stable and i have had no other restarts but this makes me think why would i get so many problems on what is a small percentage of what the processor is capable of. another strange thing, the pc is fine under heavy load it is when its idling or doing next to nothing.

Sounds like it could be a Power Management problem.

Update: restarts still happening at stock speed. i am majorly disappointed with this new build, especially when my neighbors CP build hasn't missed a beat. what are my options? i did try ringing a few times but it says lines are busy.

Turn off C1E and C6 in BIOS, check for apps or services that wait for the PC to become idle before starting up, disable sleep and turn off monitor in windows power manager.

Try a clean install on a different HDD and see if the same happens.
