![]() Topic: Overclocking RAMPosted: 17/Jul/2012 at 09:42 |

Hi everyone.
I bought a PC from here about 4 months ago, with a Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 mobo, intel i5 2500K processor XXX overclocked and 8GB of Kingston Hyper X Genesis 1600MHz RAM. I've recently bought another 8GB of Kingston Hyper X Genesis 1600MHz RAM and installed it in my machine. After putting the new RAM in my PC, it doesn't boot and has the message overclock failed, I presume this is because the new RAM isn't overclocked. I was just wondering if anybody would be able to help me out in doing so? Also if anybody from the Cyberpower team could detail what speed the RAM is overclocked to, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Edited by sbirkmyre - 17/Jul/2012 at 09:45 |

The 'Overclocking Failed' message just means the system didn't pass its POST (power on self test), if you look on the board there may be a red light near the RAM slots that stays on with all the RAM modules in place (normally it would go off after testing the RAM).
You can't usually add RAM, especially high performance stuff. It might look the same on the outside but may use incompatible ICs. So you are better off replacing the lot or you get this sort of problem. Try with just the old RAM then just the new RAM. Run Memtest86 on both sets of RAM to rule out faults. |

Yeah I spotted the red LED you're on about.
Ahh ok, guess I should have done a bit more research before ordering the RAM. I'll look into a bit more later on and report back. |

Right. So did a bit more testing.
The general outcome seems that boot up fails once and then it boots up fine. This happens with both sets of RAM in, just the new RAM in only and the old RAM in only. Is there any way I can get my computer to boot up first time with both RAM installed? Either that or I'd like to go back to the old/;new RAM and have it boot up first time |

Get it into BIOS with all the RAM, Load the CPUKOC profile in Tools/OC Profile, take screenshots or photos of all the settings. Flash your BIOS to the latest version and put the settings back as they were and it may resolve it. If not try increasing the DRAM voltage slightly.

Loading the CPUKOC profile has done the trick :)
Thanks very much |
