![]() Topic: New Build for Home WorkstationPosted: 03/Jul/2012 at 17:47 |

Hi all,
I am currently in the market for a new Home Workstation for using software like Autodesk Maya (Animation) and Adobe software such as Photoshop,Premiere and After Effects. I'm not that bothered about gaming really. My Budget is around £1000. Have been looking at the Dell xps 8500 but thought I could get more options with a company like yourselves? Was thinking of getting a 3770 CPU (not sure If I'd need a 'k'- I dont game but maybe a small overclock is ok?) on an Asus P877-V board. I would like an SSD boot drive (120GB perhaps) and a HDD drive for data (prob around 2TB). I'd prob whack in at least 8GB of low profile RAM - maybe 16GB if my budget allows. Real sticking point for me is what GPU I should get as I have seen many conflicting reports about what is best for Maya/Editing etc... I cant really justify spending on a high end Quadro card so thought a 560ti would be enough for my needs? I seen a Gainward 1280MB ltd 448 core edition which I liked the look of for the extra cores plus it also had a dispplay port which is nice :) Anyway any help on this would be great as my head is spinning with all the options out there! Many thanks Edited by Brewery - 03/Jul/2012 at 17:48 |

Cyberpower will give you much more value and quality components, companies like dell may seem cheaper but thats because they skimp on things such as the hard drives, motherboards and even their cases. (Ex-Dell user myself)
Yeah you right the K means that it has an unlocked multiplier ready for overclocking, which will still aid even though your not a gamer as it boosts the overall system perfomance for day to day and and while performing heavy tasks. You may also want to look at the intel X79 socket, its a little more expensive but it might prove a better with the programmes your going to use. 120GB is a nice size for an SSD, although the prices are falling on the bigger ones. As for the GPU im afriad i dont know whats good for Maya and whats not. 560Ti is a great card but its getting old now, also beware that the cards that cyberpower have in stock may not not have a display port but then can always get one in if you can. If you want to beat the sands of time i would go for a GTX 670 or an AMD 7800/7900 series GPU. Edited by azza1991 - 03/Jul/2012 at 18:38 |

With a 3770K we can over clock it to 4.5GHz for a massive reduction in render times.
For drives go with the 256GB M4 I think it is best £/GB same goes for our 2TB drives which are currently Seagate Baracuda basically the fastest HDD available and almost as good access times as a 10kRPM drive like the Raptors. For graphics the 560Ti 448 is an excellent choice. If you know the Gain ward model number speak with sales and we can get it in as a special order. It may cost a little more and take a little longer to come in but if you really need display port it is a good option. |

Thanks very much for the replies Guys.
The secific GPU I found was a 'Gainward GeForce GTX 560 Ti 448 Core Limited Edition NVIDIA Graphics Card - 1280MB' manufacturer code - 426018336-2456 I found it at Scan for £166 which seems a good price - if Cyberpower could offer it for something similar that would be great :) From what I heard the newer 6** series cards dont play too nice with Maya, and users have reported issues with AMD cards in the past too but maybe the newer ones are fine - very difficult to know for sure until you try I guess! Does overclocking come with any drawbacks in terms of reliability or anything? Sorry I'm not a gamer like I say so am not used to the term! Also in Terms of Delivery and Warranty I am currently based in the Scottish Highlands, would this pose any problems at all? Many thanks for you help - much appreciated :) Edited by Brewery - 04/Jul/2012 at 17:19 |

No draw backs other than needing a better cooler but most people pick a decent on anyway.
I've specced up a system for you, with a GTX560Ti 448 Core. If you save it and speak with sales about the Gainward card we can get one in for your system.
I don't think the islands are a problem so long as you have a UK Post Code, but again check when you make the order. Edited by Cyber_Tech - 04/Jul/2012 at 20:50 |
