Hi, Cyberpower built my PC for me about three years ago and it was done over the phone because I have absolutely no technical knowledge at all - my only specification was that I wanted a reasonably priced rig that would display Everquest II well.

They built it and sent it to me and I'm still perfectly content with it so see no need to get a whole new PC but I feel it probably is time to upgrade the graphics. I'm still playing EQII and think the game can probably be shown to better advantage than it currently is. At the moment I'm using an ATI radeon HD 4600 which is what the PC came with. Can anyone tell me a reasonably priced but better card than that these days? Err, and I do need to upgrade my processor too? (I have no idea how to do either of those things but I know a man who can ) Oh and one of my fans stopped working (that used to look kinda cool as it showed the temperature on it in red neon writing so should I replace that?

I think that's all my PC questions - thanks for listening:) Feb

Be useful to know what you power supply is (Watts) and what Motherboard you have. If your content with the speed of the machine then your processor with be fine, if not you'll beed a new PC basically as thats one of the few components you cant just swap and replace.

Also what price range are you looking at? the more the better graphics card but will also require a larger PSU.

Hi, the motherboard is AMD 64 (quad core), it has 4 Gb of RAM and the chip set is AMD790 GX.

The PSU is max 580 Watt.

The processor is an AMD Phenon 9950 Quad-Core Processor 2.60 GHz.

I think that was everything you wanted to know. Speed wise, it's ok but if it can be super-fast then maybe a new PC is the way to go but the trouble is that I know what I want but have no clue how to express it in technical terms. When I got this PC it was as a result of a phone call saying "Hi, I game and I'd like a good PC please"

Your CPU can be over clocked towards 3GHz for a performance boost. Your PSU will be able to cope with any single GPU card from the current generation. So decide how much you want to spend. Around £100 gets you a 7770 and around £400 gets you a 7970 or GTX 680. But if you are looking to spend that much an all round d system overhaul, with CPU, Motherboard, RAM and Graphics should be considered.

Is the fan that failed on your CPU cooler? If so then you should replace it. As it won't be cooling the CPU properly which may lead to slow downs when the CPU cuts power to protect itself and the motherboard. This should be your priority.

Aah ok, well the fan's not worked for months /blush - I'm pretty sure there's more than one fan in there but that one was obvious because it would light up and tell you the temperature. Ok, well I wasn't thinking about a new rig but having read a bit more of these forums I can see that technology has moved on and I haven't so, notionally for about £1000 what would you recommend? - with gaming being my priority as that's my PC's prime function, that and the odd movie. (It's wired up to a telly rather than a monitor).
And thanks for your responses:)
