Xplorer X6-9200
1920x1080 display
GT540M GFX Card
Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit
2 login accounts configured

Every so often I'll boot up the laptop and at the login screen the display resolution is 1027x768. Since I don't want to lose the desktop icon placements on my main login I use the other one to login and reset the display resolution to default (1920x1080).

Then it remains OK at the default res until some other time later the above repeats.

Why? What's causing this?
Cheers!
Ian

Set Prefer High Performance in NVidia control panel. It may be that on boot the 540M is disabled and the system defaults to a low resolution as it doesn't know it has a good GPU.

I wondered at that ... but the Intel onboard GPU is HD anyway, so it should know the settings and be capable of driving 1920x1080?
Cheers!

Yes it is capable of HD but the OS may default to low res modes to make sure you get a picture.

I've set the high performance setting. I'll let you know if it DIDN'T work. :)

It didn't work. When I powered up tonight it defaulted to 1024 x 768. High Performance is still selected.
Cheers!

Was that from a Restart, Sleep, Hibernate or Shut Down state?

Shutdown. I've never seen it from a Restart, and I never Sleep or Hibernate.

Well, I sleep, but the laptop doesn't.
Cheers!

How often does it happen?

Are you on the latest Intel and Nvidia Graphics drivers?

Sorry for late reply - been on holiday.

Hard to say how often - it's irregular. Maybe 6 or so times since I've had the laptop?

I think Intel drivers are latest. Nvidia are not (that I recall) - I installed updated drivers (301.42 from memory) and the laptop went all screwy (really slow to respond in 3D games) so I rolled back.

Nvidia = 285.62
Intel = 2108.0 (that's what the Intel Info Center reports for Video BIOS).

Edit: device manager shows 8.15.10.2696 dated 19/03/2012

That's the driver you need, maybe you got the desktop version before.

Nope. Just downloaded it again today (not installed yet) and that's the exact filename, except with (1) at the end to show it's a copy of something already in my Downloads folder.

I'll try installing the new download and see what happens.
Cheers!

Have done - did a clean install this time. Seems to not have the "sluggishness" issue I saw before. Time will tell if it helps resolve the resolution issue.
Cheers!

Just had another resolution issue. Oh well - I guess it's just one of those things I can live with.
Cheers!
