Rather than buying a completely new PC I've decided just to upgrade my current out of date PC.
I'm unsure whether or not the video card I've been looking at is compatible though. The video card is the Sapphire Radeon HD6850 1GB and I have the Pentium(R) Dual-Core E5200 @2.50 GHz with 4GB of RAM (Which I'm also thinking of upgrading by replacing the two 2GB RAM sticks with 4GB ones) I know I won't be able to play the most high-end of next gen games with ultra high graphics and an incredible FPS but I have my Xbox for that, this PC will mainly be used for Strategy/MMO games and video editing. And I know the processor is outdated but it still gets every job done that I throw at it with great speed, excluding most new games. If the graphics card isn't compatible I'm thinking about the Radeon HD5770 1GB? Edited by McFizzletits - 15/Jun/2012 at 10:32 |

Depends on your PSU what do you have?
If your RAM is DDR2 you can't use 4GB sticks so check that. I'd also be replacing the (or at least overclocking) CPU as that is fairly weak. Options for CPU upgrades would be the QX6700, Q6600, Q9550 or Q9650. Edited by Cyber_Tech - 17/Jun/2012 at 20:13 |

As Luke says a CPU upgrade would make the world of difference. You can get 2nd-hand quads on Ebay for peanuts now

Damn, was certain I had DDR3 but just checked and I was mistaken. That's disappointing, haha.
If I were to get a new CPU I'd have to go with the Q6600 in that case, as the other two are quite a bit more expensive. As for the PSU, I'm almost certain that it's 550w. |

Do you know the brand or model of the PSU?
If it's a good 550W you'll get away with a 6850 no problem. If not then have a look at the 7770 and 7850 as they use less power than the older cards for the same performance. Performance:

Turns out my PSU is 450 not 550 so I think I'm going to play it safe and get the 7750. Thanks for the help!

At that wattage it's best to stick to card that don't need extra power connectors like the 7750.

Yeah, it's not gonna be fast enough to play all the latest games with the setting all on like ultra high but I've got my console for that.
