Hi all i have taken a long time looking through many options and have come up with this config:
Case: NZXT Switch 810 Hybird Full Tower Gaming Case w/ Dual 140MM Pivot Fan Slots and Front USB 3.0 CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-3570K Quad Core 3.40 GHz 6MB Cache LGA1155 + HD Graphics ***Overclockable XXX*** Overclocking Service: XXX Overclocking (CPU Extreme overclock: guaranteed min. 20%, max. 30%.) Cooling Fan: ARCTIC FREEZER 13 CPU FAN with 4 direct heatpipes, High performance and Ultra quiet ***Overclockable XXX*** [-10] Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Intel Z77 Chipset CrossFire / SLI supported DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ 4 RAM slots, Lucid Virtu MVP, TUF Thermal Armor, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, 2x PCIe x16 (1 Gen3, 1 Gen2), 2x PCIe x1 ***Overclockable XXX*** [+105] Memory: 16GB(4x4GB) PC10666 DDR3/1333mhz Dual Channel Memory (Kingston Value Brand) Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB GDDR5 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card [+72] (Major Brand Powered by AMD) Power Supply Upgrade: 850 Watts Power Supplies (Corsair 850 Watts CMPSU-850HX Modular Gaming Power Supply - Quad SLI Ready [+30]) Hard Drive: 120 GB OCZ Agility 3 SATA III Gaming MLC Solid State Disk [-1] (Single Drive) Data Hard Drive: 2TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64M Cache 7200RPM Hard Drive [+79] (Single Hard Drive) Optical Drive: LG BH10LS38 10X Blu-Ray Rewriter & 16X DVD±R/±RW Drive (please select the Blue Ray software in the Software section) [+46] Sound: Creative Labs SB Audigy SE [+18] Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® 7 Professional [+28] (64-bit Edition) I will use it for gaming, internet, watching movies, multi tasking etc. I have a few questions hope you can help.thanks. 1. Which case?, i have chosen the NZXT Switch 810, this is mainly because of the dock so i can use 3.5" sata with this, not sure about the colour or the plastic look, what are other peoples thoughts. My original choice was the cm storm trooperbut need the 3.5" sata dock. 2. Cpu Fan, not sure which one to go for, prefer quiet but do not really want a water cooling one. 3. Cpu, is this cpu fine or should i upgrade. 4. Motherboard, not sure which one to go for thinking about going for Asus P8Z77-M because it will save me £95 is there much difference between these or any other preference. 5. Ram, should i go for a higher speed, does it make a difference. 6. ssd drive, which one is best, thinking i might upgrade to a 240gb one. 7. Fan controller, thinking of this so i can turn the fans down if too noisy. 8. Ultracare, are the ultracare options worth it or not. Sorry for all the questions but need to decide soon and need advice.thanks. Budget less than £1600 but the cheaper the better. Edited by nerdshack999 - 08/Jun/2012 at 01:51 |

Case is more personal choice .. so get one you like .. if you are already querstioning the NZXT I'd suggest you choose another.
Suggest you drop the sound card .. the Z77 Sabertooth has decent onboard 7.1 HD Audio .. and use the money to switch the CPU cooler to a Prolimatch Megahalems. CPU is fine for gaming .. Motherboard .. well you can't get much better than a Sabertooth for overclocking. I have one myself .. Memory .. could drop it down to 8GB and raise speed to 1600MHz. Will help with the overclock. ASUS Sabertooth will control all your fans using the Thermal Radar application .. no need for anything else. |

Thanks for your thoughts.
The problem with the case is that i have a few 3.5 sata drives hanging around and i would like to use the dock in the switch 810 but not sure about the look of it. Are you sure about the onboard audio i have never used onboard before. How does the thernal radar software work. Any thoughts on the ssd drive or the ultracare options. thanks again any comments are appreciated. |

Google for ASUS Z77 Sabertooth and watch the video demonstrations should tell you all you need to know ..
Thoughts on SSDs .. if you can one afford it get one, the bigger the better. They seem all pretty much the same if you check the benchmarks and firmware is maturing so unlikely to get many issues now. What is Ultracare? .. I don't recall seeing it listed. OK found them .. Thermal Compound would be good as you are overclocking the CPU .. Wiring is not entirely necessary but good if you have a side window .. Packaging depends on the delivery options you choose and whether you are happy with reseating cards if they get jolted in transport. Edited by Ellz - 08/Jun/2012 at 15:14 |

thanks for the advice, will the onboard audio be ok for watching movies?. whats the difference between the onboard asus fan software and a separate fan controller. What do you think of my case dilemma. What speed ram should i go for.thanks

The on board audio is capable of feeding a 7.1 surround home theatre system .. not sure what setup your likely to have but it should suit almost anything you can throw at it. Headphones or speakers, stereo, quad or surround with subwoofer. I guessing from your questions that you don't have a surround system so yeah you'll be fine watching movies just make sure to buy the BluRay software to play it and you're good to go.
As for fan controllers .. there no diffence really .. just the motherboard has in build temperature sensors which feed the ASUS fan controller information. If you used a separate fan controller it has it own sensors to do the same thing, so you just be duplicating functions again for something you already have .. just like the onboard audio and the sound card. As for the case .. you can always get and external dock for your drives so just choose which ever case you want ease and external dock if you don't like the case you chose. Thanks for the advice, i think i will use the onboard audio and if i need a sound card i could always buy it in the future. The main reason i want a fan controller is so that if it too noisy like watching a movie i can turn it down, can i do this with the inbuilt software. What speed ram do you think is best. Another question any thoughts on the psu that i have chosen. thanks any other advice would be good thanks.

The ASUS software allows you full manual control of all the fans .. but it should be pretty quiet anyway on auto as it will test each fan and then adjust the speed of them to maintain the right temperature.
PSU is fine .. For memory see post number 2. |

thanks for the answers, not sure about the cpu fan you recommended the Prolimatch Megahalems, but which one is the best at overclocking, quietest and best value(hope to save more money), everthing else is decided except for the case, this switch 810 has built in sata 3.5" dock how much of a difference in speed between this and a external dock.thanks sorry for all the questions i have found more answers here in the last 2 days than over the previous month. Are there any other extras i should consider before making a final decision.

You can pick up a USB 3 external dock quite cheaply or go for an esata dock .. lots about if you search online. Or alternatively you could get a SATA Hotswap Hard Drive Caddy installed in the PC. Again a search online will show you whats available. As for speed, should be about the same ... The Coolermaster power supply is quiet, not sure about the Corsair.. but if you that concerned about noise you may want to look at adding some dampening to the fans and power supply to reduce vibration. CP has options for both. It may also be worth noting that the ASUS Thermal Radar allows you to turn indivual fans completely off if you require and will automatically do so if the temperture allows. Corsair units are very potent and quiet. For a high end quiet system the Corsair Obsidian cases are good choices.

Some ideas ...
Get the NZXT Switch 810 with the Max. 3 x 120mm Silent Case Cooling Fans in selected case key areas for ultra silent operation option. Should solve the fan noise issue. I think CP will supply the fans for the CPU .. but just check with sales .. again youl want the same fans as a above in a push pull config if possible. As for packaging, again ask sales specifically what the difference is between the two options, so you know what you are getting. |

Not really, I often use NZXT fans when upgrading to cool systems down. I don't find them excessively noisy.
I can OC and test the graphics card for you as part of the overclocking service. About 237MHz, performance wise not a lot but it does improve memory throughput and bandwidth but you wont really feel it in games. |

On my system with 4GB at the most i have about 6+ Firefox tabs open with about 3 or 4 programmes going and i dont really see a slow down at all. But it depends on how memory intensive your programmes are really. What programmes are you running at the same time?

On an overclocked system i doubt it will make too much of a difference (Dont know if they overclock the RAM or not though), but if your worried about it just wait for Cyber_tech and im sure he'll shed some light on it.

For gaming its going to be 1-2% not a big deal of difference on most systems. Only makes much difference on AMD Llano iGPUs.

Fan Controller, some cases have them built in but for the ones that dont you can buy front bay ones that can control the speed.
Also you can get front bay devices for 3.5" hot swapping if your case doesnt have it, but you cant get them from cyberpower at the moment so best look for a case that already has them if your going to be using that feature. I know for sure that the Corsair Obsidian 800D, the Azza Hurrican 2000 and both of the TT Level 10's have them. Edited by azza1991 - 12/Jun/2012 at 07:50 |

Depending on the motherboard you can control fans using BIOS settings and software. Asus boards are best for this.

On the Sabertooth you can control up to 12 fans (PWR_Fan is usually not controllable).
That build ticks all the right boxes, decent sized fast SSD best CPU, good board, graphics case and PSU. |
