It sounds like the headphones are picking up the bass via as interference.

Use the Windows Sounds manager. Right click the speaker icon, go to Playback Devices.

In Win7 you have two classes of output device, Playback and Communications. By default it sets headphones as comms so you need to set this to "default playback device" before launching the app/game you want headphone sound in and switch back to the surround output when you need that.

Hi, thanks
i have no problems with the headphones its when i remove them, and use the souround sound speakers that i get the low bass from the movie/game and if their is sound im unable to hear it ,,but when i use the sound manager to test i get tone's from all the speakers ??

All i have in playback devices is : Speakers
                                                 Realtek Digital output

Done test's on speaker's config and i get sound ...

im stuck as to wy ,,they clearly work on test's but not movie/games ??

OK,just tryed it on a 5.1 film and it all worked,
But tryed it on a sterio and all i get is the low bass,,
This was on VLC and in film had to change to 5.1

Are you connecting via analogue or digital to your surround speakers?

That's what I meant. You need to make sure that VLC isn't trying to send the audio out over the digital output.

Disable anything that says SPDIF/Digital Pass through.

I use Media Player Classic Home Cinema with hali media splitter, ffdShow and AC3 Filter. I never really liked VLC. Having said that Media Player Classic is a bit of a dog to set up but once it's done right it works really well for High Def films in MKV format.

There's a good guide on using it on Guru3D

http://www.cccp-project.net/ it installs media player classic and a number of other players with all the codecs, filters etc with just a simple 1-2 page installation screen.

Been using it for ages and never had an issue with it.

Ok have done another reinstall of W7, and i still got the same prob,
However i have found that after updating my sound driver with a new driver, has half solved it..

Im am only able to get films that have 5.1 embeded in them to play throu sourond sound, after selecting 5.1 in vlc

if they are in sterio i still am unable to hear them ?? as i dont get any option to change the output ??

help i have more sterio films than 5.1 ,,

again all the films worked throu the speakers when i was running xp

Still having the same issue.. even after the above codecs and media players..also not getting any audio from music throu the speckers only head set ?

Would it be down to having to get the mobo updated for W7 ??

and i guess im the only one having this issue with W7
