How does this look guys? Anything that would be better changed within the same price bracket (about 1100 with the discount)? Preferable motherboard or cooler perhaps? Do I need the thernaltake cooler with max fans and vice versa? Want to be able to overclock. Thanks.

Looks good to me. The only things I would suggest are to take a single 1TB drive instead of two in RAID (from experience losing all my data and OS when one goes) and to add S&S overclocking if it's in budget for a good speed boost.

Would the Raid be more likely to result in me losing the hard drive? Surely the same thing could happen with just one hard drive and the data and OS would be lost too. Is a Raid set up more vulnerable? Thanks.

A single hard drive has a small percentage chance of dying yeah. However, if you have two drives in RAID-0, either drive dying will result in loss of all data on both drives, so you double the chance of there being a problem.

A single 32MB cache 1TB HDD will come close to a pair of 500GB drives in performance.
S&S overclocking will give your CPU and graphics a good performance boost. Luke |

Luke, when you overclock, do you disable the CPU fan speed controllers on the MB so the fan is constantly running fast? I would be a little concerned about this as it would increase noise - something i wish to avoid.
Do I need an aftermarket CPU cooler if I am choosing max case fans and also, does the apevia 420 case allow for adjustment of the speed of its own fans? If not, what is a better case to allow this? Thanks. Edited by Templeton - 07/Jun/2009 at 22:56 |

I generally leave them at default. It is better to controll them in windows or with a fan controller. Adding max fans will add more noise.
The TRUE that you have choosen is quieter than a stock cooler, and the stock cooler doesn't allow high overclocks. The best case for fan controll is the Antec 1200, each fan (upto 6) has a knob or switch for controll, next best is the Antec 900, the Antec 300 has better airflow than the Apevia Jupiter when max fanns are added. The Apevia Jupiter has one fan control knob on the front. Luke |
