Just thought I'd start a new thread telling everyone about my install for Ubuntu that I'm doing today. I'll just keep it updates as to what I did etc incase anyone else fancies giving it a whirl at some stage. Questions are welcome, I'll try and help as much as I can!

Alright then, had problems burning the 8.4 iso so I just stuck in my old 6.06 Edgy Eft cd I was given about 2 years ago.
I decided on the dual boot option, I'm not over-writing windows, I'm just going to partition my 60GB hard drive and have both Windows XP and Ubuntu avaliable for me to choose from. When you install Ubuntu onto a new partition it detects other OS's and installs a boot loader called GRUB which lets you pick which OS you'd like to boot when you turn on the PC. I created an 8GB partition (you need a minimum of 2GB) for Ubuntu just to give me room to play around with things. You can resize or create new partitions on your Hard Drive using a partition manager (called gparted) that is included with the install as a basic OS utility, I think you can also download it as a seperate program for anyone that wants to set up or change any partitions. |

Ubuntu is cracking! However, currently can't connect to the internet as I don't have the correct Linux driver for my wireless card and until I can hook up to a wired connection I can't grab said driver etc etc.
Am looking into using the Windows driver in Linux but it all seems a little complicated so I may just wait it out :P |

sorry u never appeared to get an ans to your question mate.... ubunu like most of the linux op systems / red hat O/S variations can be modded to work.. altho blizzard tend to have 3 installers available... windows , mac and other - baiscally linux... starcraft 2 does run on red hat linux but ofc there is no GUI to most of those so its not much fun for most

Ubuntu is a complete desktop linux based operating system. It's a freely available in the market for use of community or professional support. Ubuntu is works well with the most modern hardware or different types of device but you may want to enable to third party drivers to get the best performance.
