A musical voice in the wilderness!
To anyone interested. Here's the current stuff I use most of the time:

COMPUTER: Vista 32bit | CPU XQ9650 3.0GHz Quad | 4GB 800 RAM | Intel 780i SLI x3 Mobo | 8800GTX 768Mb | 2 x 500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache HDD | X-Fi Platinum Fatality Champion | MUSIC: Cubase 4.1.3 | Virtual Guitarist | Virtual Bassist | Groove Agent 2 | Kontakt 3 | Reason 4.0.1 | Re-Cycle 2.1.1 | UC-33e controller | Adam ANF10 speakers | Yamaha PSR2000 keyboard.

I upgraded to C4 recently from Cubase SX3, it's a huge improvement and well worth the additional minor investment cost. Kontakt 3 sampler has some bugs and stability issues (but NI is dealing with these and should be fixed in the next free update). I also run FL producer studio (some people love this) but I just can't work with it, although the sound-quality is top notch 32 bit floating point. I have been mainly using Reason for a couple of years but love Cubase now. And by the way C4 and Reason re-wire perfectly! So the best of both worlds.

Hi Mike.

I can recommend the Adam ANF10s. I think they are the cheapest Adam speakers you can get. These are passive and through a decent amp sound perfect to me. Allow you to hear right through a mix, totally unforgiving. They have a decent bottom end that doesn't pump, and the top end is clear as clear can be. Wonderful. Do check them out. Got mine thought Digital Village and they have a 10 year warranty. Fine German engineering! There's plenty to choose from through as you probably know.

Look nice mind. Had a bit of a read this morning they seem impressive. £400/pair isn't bad either considering.

Cheers will give em a good look

I had considered the JBL Control 28's, but there frequency response isn't as good although they carry more power.

I was worried a first thinking they might be underpowered, but since using them I've forgotten about that. Their sound can fill a room easily, and the best thing is that I normally work with them at a fairly low volume setting most of the time, so no fatigue (well not so much) and easy on my relationship with the neighbors. The main thing si what you want them for. If its mixing you can't go wrong. Good luck.

Here's a link to a review in SOS, although looking from the your pic, I would guess there' where you've already been looking?

Hi Guys

You can check out my songs  (if you can call them that!) here:

http://www.soundclick.com/petetytler

Be prepared for some weird stuff!

Anyway some feedback is always appreciated if anyone would be so kind. (or not so kind).

Thanks.

"Digital Data (Driving Me Crazy)" is the latest one, and very appropriate to this site.

Thanks Dave, very good of you to respond. I can take criticism well, so do please be honest. It is weird stuff and early days for me... but getting better, although the weirdness seems to increase too! The only thing about soundclick is the quality is only 128Kbps, so not exactly sonic excellence. I have some better sample rates at www.musicfreedom.com/petetytler, but I've reduced the play time to 45 secs only... but this does give a quick compliation kind of thing but at better sonic quality (192). It breaks my heart when I'm working at 24 bit 44.1 Khz quality to samplle-down.
Look forward to any comments you may care to impart. And good speakers helps of course, hence the conversation above!

All the best
Pete

Hi Jamie,

I've just listened to your clip it sound sonically fine on my system. According to a check its wma format at 384Kbps, which is decent quality, ie near CD quality.

Soundcard settings and particularly speakers are the factors here, as well as the bit rate/sample rates, the higher these are the better quality it is (CD is 16 bit 44.1Khz). It's a complex subject but for any sonic work you need to set your sound quality at least CD, or higher. To get decent (pro) quality it needs to be 24 bit at 44.1 or a lot more. (48Khz, 96Khz)

I can't really help you anymore on this one. Another thing is to keep your sound card drivers up to date, keep the HD defragmented, and generally keep everything on your machine tip-top. If you've got a system riddled with faults, viruses and spyware, it's not going to perform properly nomatter how good the computer is, or what decent software you've running.

All the best
pete

I'm currently using GarageBand and an iMic interface. Pretty basic setup and i'm an amateur to music composition. I purchased this one time with a fantastic deal at my local music store.

Old thread, but i'll contribute..

I use FL Studio. Tried others but I just can't grasp them.

You can listen to my results at http://citizen69.bandcamp.com (Where you can download the 5 tracks freely) OR http://soundcloud.com/citizen69 (Which has alot more music, along with alot of 'works in progress'.)
