On test bench now!
Specs for tests: *New* E8400 "Wolfdale" *New* Striker-II *New* Coolermaster 700W PSU *New* Radeon 3870 X2 1GB Card 2x1GB PC8500 nVidia SLi Memory A canny test bench I think you'll agree, I've thrown a TEC into the mix as well for some extreme overclocking results, which we'll see shortly. Stock settings, Dual-core with 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 Timings RAM, 3870X2 stock

The PSU is behaving brilliantly - under Prime+3DMark load with the 3870X2 running, voltages are reading 12.14 with a multimeter. Very good if you ask me.
There doesn't seem to be any spin up/down on the PSU when under load either, the fans stays at a low RPM, and is virtually inaudible. The unit is going on a full load overclocked bench tongiht so I'll have speedfan on as well and we'll see how the graphs look in the morning for ripple. modular cables are a great plus - Everything but the 24-pin/+4+4 are included as separet cables, and much easier to connect over the previous generation of modular PSU's that often had very tight fittings. I will look forward to your findings Mike. I originally had a budget of £650 but I've begged and borrowed and upped it to £850. I'm looking to build my system around the E8400.
PS. Is the Coolermaster 700W PSU the modular one in the configurator?

I'd be very interested to know your results with the E8400 - including the need (or not) to up the voltage. Also, strangely, I'd like to hear what you think about that PSU in terms of noise and stability - I'll be building around the 850W version in a couple or three months and am hoping I have made a good choice from the few reviews I read. Lastly, if you have time or feel bored at any point (  ) it would good to see what real difference that fast DDR makes, compared to standard DDR6400Cheers, Dave Edited by licenced - 04/Feb/2008 at 13:43 |
